A particle is a very small object. It is defined by its quantum numbers. These are different numbers for properties like electric charge, mass, color charge, spin a.o. There is absolutely no way to tell two particles apart that have the same quantum numbers.

Particles behave according to quantum mechanics. The currently most accepted theory about particles and their interaction is called standard model.
